IMPROBABLE COLLABORATOR

Comprising Juan José Valencia and Lena Peñate Spicer, ValenciaPspicer is an artistic team interested in social behaviour and rhetoric, online social behaviour and expressions responding to the grammar of culture itself. They combine their artistic work with curating exhibitions.

In their projects they attach importance to the role played by texts in constructing contemporary artistic discourse, as well as the relationship between text and image.

Artist Training: Carlos Castañeda (Rofe producciones)

PROPOSAL

  • Conduct activities linked to the territory and seek alternatives and coincidences with the characteristics of Hotel Tigaiga.
  • Develop the “Slow activity” nomenclature in order to conceptualise and invigorate sedate activities so that they can also develop the surroundings and their possibilities.
  • Enhance the figure of the tourist as the protagonist of a global reality and initiate a field of study, a laboratory, about these methodologies.

RESULT

The group of artists analysed the hotel’s profile and characteristics, thus establishing a conceptual framework for Tigaiga’s needs. The team designed a series of activities according to the environmental identity of the establishment with the aim of enhancing the figure of the tourist as the featured player of reality.

The proposal involved opening a field of study on these methodologies by creating an activity laboratory. The idea is to create meaning with the activities, get to the heart of the project and increase visibility.

Highlights of these activities include Hotel Tigaiga’s sound landscape, the emblematic trees routes of Tenerife or the creation of a Tigaiga library.

TenerifeLab 2016 is promoted by Tenerife Island Council.
