To create friendly spaces for the paediatric patients.
Kraftkovia was set up by Vera Aldabe, who has a degree in Fine Arts, and Mikel Diaz de Ilarraza, architect and professor at UPV. Kraftkovia is a place for experimentation that aims to develop the perception and expression skills of children by approaching various artistic disciplines without prejudice or complexes. It is a space for play in which things are not always as they seem, in which mistakes are needed to advance and processes are more important than final results.
Kraftkovia would conduct various dynamic to help them reflect on the various ways of perceiving the spaces we inhabit, based on physical, environmental or emotional conditions. It would attempt to offer new perspectives that could lead to shared exploration, different solutions to those already established and aiming for the recreational component to be an essential part of the process.
A project entitled UMEnizar was undertaken in which a diagnosis was made of how children experienced their visit to the paediatric service of the Vitoria-Gasteiz health centre. This was done by conducting a series of surveys of both the users and the centre’s professionals, resulting in a large number of concepts. This led to a proposal based on the idea of including play in the process of the visit, but instead using it as a vehicle, language and tool whose aim is to help children have another type of experience when visiting their health centre.
The methodology can be reproduced in other OSI Araba centres.
