Co-research: Improbable Consultancy with Workshops
2020
ORGANISATION
Aclima, Basque Environment Cluster
CHALLENGE
To define conceptually the Aclima space in Bilbao. The Strategic Plan of the Basque Environment Cluster envisages the idea of creating a space that will serve as a driver and reference point not only for the cluster’s member companies, but also for other types of organisations.
RESULT
This Improbable Consultancy process led to defining the space as a Basque Collaborative Innovation Centre for Competitive Ecological Transition. Issues were defined such as the building’s focus, its core competence, the objectives to be achieved, with what organisation, what services are to be offered, what kind of activity is to be carried out in it, with whom and for whom, financing methods, etc., as well as what kind of spaces would be necessary for the centre to function properly, its aesthetic relationship with the environment or main construction materials.
PROCESS
Joint work was done in the process by Aclima, Basque Environment Cluster and Eraikune, Basque Construction Cluster, and the aim was to define the various aspects involved in conceptualising the building. It was therefore not about designing the building, but instead establishing the focus of what the space could be, as well as several underlying issues to develop the project.
This project was carried out through a series of online workshops: Improbable Innovation Path, Improbable Innovation Focus and Improbable Cooperation Path.
The work involved a Steering Group, comprising people belonging to the two clusters, as well as an Extended Steering Group, which included people from various public and private institutions and entities that could be connected to or even involved in any of the project’s phases, as well as partner companies.
IMPROBABLE COLLABORATOR
A working day was also held with the Enorme Studio architecture collective in order to define the spaces based on the work carried out with the Steering Group.
